English Teams To Get Bigger Slice With UEFA Competitions Set To Be Boosted By 6 Billion Prize Fund

English clubs that qualify for UEFA’s three competitions will likely see their prize money increase in future seasons, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claims that UEFA are poised to agree a new funding arrangement with Centricus Asset Management, which would lead to the prize fund for the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League jumping to £6billion in total.

Finalists of the Champions League, like Manchester City, currently get around £110m, with quarter-finalists usually receiving about £80m. Even if you don’t qualify for the knockout rounds, teams still get about half what the finalists eventually earn.

This new funding package will obviously increase the money on offer by a significant degree but, unlike the now-defunct Super League, it will still be dependent on qualification and performance in the tournament.

It is believed all of the ‘Big Six’ will pay a £13m “goodwill” payment after withdrawing from the breakaway competition, while an additional £6m will be handed back in prize money by those participating in this year’s Champions League.
