EXPLAINED: The Four Sets Of Financial Rule Breaches That City Have Been Accused Of By The Premier League

The Premier League has accused Manchester City of breaching numerous financial rules between 2009 and 2018.

Over the nine-year period, the Citizens are alleged to have broken regulations in four separate areas. We have broken them down below:

  1. Filing inaccurate information for revenue, related parties and their operating costs.
  2. Not revealing the full extent of the financial remunerations given in players’ and managers’ contracts.
  3. Not complying with UEFA’s Financial Fairplay regulations
  4. Breaking the Premier League’s own profitability and sustainability rules

In terms of the punishments for these alleged offences; fines could be issued, a points deduction (for the current Premier League season) may be considered while, in the most extreme circumstances, expulsion from the Premier League is not off the table.

There are 113 separate charges in total, and all will be assessed by an independent commission, which will be composed of members appointed by the independent chair of the Premier League judicial panel.
