Manchester City are planning to open talks with Riyad Mahrez to extend his contract beyond the end of next season.

The Algerian international is believed to be keen on playing for the Citizens until he retires, and supporters on Twitter are very much behind the winger getting a new deal:

Mahrez has been linked with the likes of Barcelona, Chelsea, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain over the past twelve months, but the Algerian has never shown any desire to leave the Etihad Stadium.

Despite having turned 31, the former Leicester player’s form has been consistently excellent and manager Pep Guardiola will surely be keen to keep hold of his services, especially considering that both Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling are likely to be sold.

Arsenal have reportedly agreed a £45m deal to sign Jesus, while Sterling is a key target for Chelsea, with the Blues expected to formalise their interest soon. Retaining Mahrez as an option on the wing is, therefore, vital.
