FIVE Players Who Have Been Linked With Surprise Returns To The Premier League This Month

After it was confirmed this week that Philippe Coutinho had joined Aston Villa on loan from Barcelona, we have decided to look at a number of other former Premier League stars who have been linked with surprise returns to this country.

Like with Coutinho, some footballers are keen on returning to these shores after encountering difficulties abroad, while others may simply be over the hill and are keen on returning for a big payday.

Of course, we must point out, not all of these stories come from reliable sources but the five players on this list have been mentioned as potential transfers this month.

Press the next page as we name the stars who could make a shock move back to English football in the January transfer window.

Alexis Sanchez – Everton

Reports in recent days have suggested that Inter Milan have offered the former Arsenal and Manchester United player to Everton on a free transfer.

Considering Sanchez has eighteen months left on his contract at the Italian champions, it would be surprising if the Toffees managed to get him without paying some sort of fee.

Georginio Wijnaldum – Arsenal

Since leaving Liverpool for Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, the Dutchman has found it difficult to nail down a first-team place at the Ligue One giants.

It has prompted speculation that he would be interested in returning to England on loan. Arsenal have been mentioned as a possible destination, although there is no concrete interest at this stage.

Marouane Fellaini – Newcastle

The Magpies have been linked with all sorts of players following their takeover but legitimate reports in Belgium have suggested that the ex-United midfielder is being pursued by Eddie Howe’s side.

Fellaini is currently in China with Shandong Taishan, but he is now 34 years of age, so you would have to question whether he can still perform at the highest level.

Eden Hazard – Liverpool

This is one of the more unlikely rumours which emanated from a report in Spain. Reds boss Jurgen Klopp was apparently keen on bringing the ex-Chelsea star back to the Premier League, but his board weren’t willing to sanction the transfer.

It seems hard to believe that there was any truth in that but Hazard is struggling for game time at Real Madrid so he may be on the move sooner rather than later.

Aaron Ramsey – Newcastle

Another Newcastle-linked player, the former Arsenal midfielder is surplus to requirements at Juventus and he is expected to leave on a free transfer at some point.

The Serie A side are keen to get Ramsey off the wage bill so a switch to St James’ Park in the coming days and weeks cannot be ruled out.
