Former Manchester City, Arsenal & Tottenham Striker Retires From Professional Football

Emmanuel Adebayor, who played for numerous Premier League clubs over the course of his career (including Manchester City) has retired from professional football at the age of 39. Additionally, he also enjoyed a brief spell at Crystal Palace.

Adebayor was a real throwback striker – he wasn’t the quickest, but he possessed otherworldly movement off the ball and was also a wicked finisher. Additionally, he also possessed excellent aerial ability – he was a real threat from crosses and set pieces.

He enjoyed his most famous (and perhaps his most infamous) moment whilst playing for Manchester City. In a game against Arsenal, which the Citizens won by a score of 4-2, he sprinted the length of the pitch to celebrate in front of the Gunners fans after netting City’s third goal.

The celebration earned him worldwide notoriety – he claimed he was merely responding to the jeers of the Arsenal support. It remains one of the Premier League’s most controversial moments of all time and is still talked about to this day.

Over the span of his time in the Premier League, Adebayor scored a total of 97 goals across the four clubs that he played for in England’s top flight.

Outside of the Premier League, the Togolese international played for teams such as Monaco, İstanbul Başakşehir and Real Madrid. His last club was based in his native Togo – AC Semassi FC.
