Former Manchester City Player Celebrates Debut Win At New Club On Instagram

Joao Cancelo, who was sold by Manchester City to Bayern Munich during the January transfer window, has celebrated a Bundesliga debut win at his new club in a post on Instagram.

The Portuguese defender registered an assist in Bayern’s 4-2 victory over Wolfsburg, as he floated a precise cross over to Kingsley Coman, who was more than happy to guide the ball into the back of the net for his second goal of the game. It was Cancelo’s second assist in as many games for the German giants.

Among the other goal scorers for Bayern were Thomas Muller and Jamal Musiala. It wasn’t a comfortable win, however, with Joshua Kimmich’s red card in the 54th minute. Cancelo was substituted on the 78th minute after an impressive showing, as he made way for veteran utility player Daley Blind.

In the post, Cancelo captioned it with: “Debut in @bundesliga ✅ +3 points 🔴⚪️ #MiaSanMia #mommyblessme.”

In the comments section of the post, he was congratulated by several of his teammates, both past and present. Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes was among them, writing [translated roughly from Portuguese]: “You can’t play bad?”

Another of Cancelo’s Portuguese compatriots, Ruben Vezo, wrote [translated from Portuguese]: “Just another normal day.”

Eric Garcia, who played under Pep Guardiola with Cancelo at City, wrote [translated from Spanish]: “You are so good bro.”

Currently, the versatile full back’s post has over 300,000 likes on Instagram. Among those who liked the post were Ruben Dias and fellow City alumni Leroy Sane.
