BBC pundit Garth Crooks has selected Manchester City trio Erling Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan in his Premier League ‘Team of the Week’
All three players were standout performers in the 2-0 win over West Ham at the weekend, but Crooks singled out Haaland for praise after the Norwegian scored a brace on his league debut:
“City’s latest addition demonstrated the power and pace that would terrify any team. I am not in the slightest bit swayed by the over-the-top predictions that this lad can score 30 or 40 goals in the Premier League, but I did sit up and take notice of the electric turn of pace a man of Haaland’s size could generate. That was scary.”
Haaland’s speed, strength and finishing ability will pose a problem for any defence, and, while Crooks may be right to be hesitant about the striker scoring 30 to 40, there’s no doubt he will be in the goals on a regular basis. If he stays fit, the £51m paid to sign him from Borussia Dortmund will prove to be an absolute bargain.
In terms of the rest of Crooks’ team, he picked two Arsenal players in William Saliba & Gabriel Jesus, as well as Tottenham duo Eric Dier and Dejan Kulusevski. Brighton pair Robert Sanchez and Pascal Gross, Newcastle’s Fabian Schar and Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic completed the eleven.
