Gary Lineker Claims Chelsea Could Challenge City And PSG For Legendary Figure

BBC presenter Gary Lineker believes Chelsea may challenge the likes of Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain for Lionel Messi’s signature.

Barcelona confirmed yesterday that the Catalan club are unable to keep the Argentinian legend due to salary cap limitations and the 34-year-old is free to choose his next club now he is unattached.

Lineker initially asserted that Messi could only realistically join two clubs (City and PSG), but replying to a question on Twitter, he said Chelsea could also be a “possibility”:

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has already ruled out the Citizens from going after Messi, despite having made moves for the Argentine in the past.

PSG still seem to be the player’s most likely destination, with reports yesterday claiming that Messi had already contacted the Ligue One club’s manager Mauricio Pochettino directly about a possible switch to France. Fans hoping that the forward will end up in the Premier League may be left disappointed.
