BBC presenter Gary Lineker has mocked Manchester United’s newest signing Casemiro for suggesting that he had moved to Old Trafford to win the Premier League title.

The Red Devils have spent £70m on the Brazilian (who has five Champions League winners medals to his name) but Lineker has raised an eyebrow about the player’s comments suggesting a title challenge is a possibility:

United may have beaten Liverpool last night but Erik ten Hag’s team are very unlikely to be competing with the likes of City, Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal come May.

After two very poor defeats against Brighton and Brentford, they did show some heart against a rather poor Liverpool, but Pep Guardiola’s side are unlikely to be as accommodating.

City’s 3-3 draw against Newcastle on Sunday means Guardiola will need to see some improvement from his own team but United are unlikely to be close to them in the table by October when the first Manchester derby is played.
