Germany team-mate takes aim at Leroy Sane following forward’s omission from Manchester City squad

Real Madrid midfielder says Leroy Sane must improve his attitude in order to fulfil his huge potential.

Sane won the PFA’s Young Player of the Year award last season following his 14 goal and 19 assists for Premier League champions Manchester City.

But the 22-year-old’s form wasn’t enough to earn him a place in Germany’s World Cup squad, with manager Joachim Low opting to take Bayer Leverkusen’s Julian Brandt instead.

Sane has also yet to start a game for Pep Guardiola’s side this season, and was dropped from the squad for Saturday’s victory over Newcastle United.

And Germany team-mate Kroos has hinted the young forward must change if his attitude if he wants to turn things around.

“Sometimes you have the feeling with Leroy’s body language that it’s all the same if we win or lose,” Kroos said.

“He’s a player who has everything you need to be a world class player but sometimes you have to tell him he has to perform better.”

He added: “What is crystal clear is his quality, his pace, his left foot. If he performs, he’s a real weapon.

“He has the quality, especially for us, but maybe the head coach looked at his performances for the national team and wasn’t happy.

“He was fantastic for City last year but Pep [Guardiola] has the same problem at the moment – he’s trying to get the best out of him.”
