Guardiola backs his side to turn things around when Liverpool visit The Etihad next week

Pep Guardiola believes his team are capable to turning over the three-goal deficit suffered against Liverpool in their Champions League quarter-final first leg.

City were beaten at Anfield for the second time this season last night thanks a trio of first-half goals from Mohamed Salah, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sadio Mane.

Despite being unable to grab an invaluable away goal, Guardiola still insists his side have the ability to turn things around when they welcome Jurgen Klopp’s side to The Etihad next week.

“I believe a lot in my team. They’ve shown me so many good things over the season,” said Pep speaking on the club’s official website.

“The result is so tough. We cannot deny it.

“But we have 90 minutes more and we’re going to try it. Of course, it’s so complicated because we’re going to play a top top team but we’re going to try it.”

Before City take on the Reds again in six days time however, they face bitter rivals Manchester United in the Premier League this weekend.

Guardiola’s side can seal the Premier League title with victory over their neighbours, and the Spaniard is determined not to let last night’s result effect their performance on Saturday.

“We have to accept it,” he said. “Now in two days we have United at home, then two days later we have Liverpool at home. We’ll see what happens.”
