Guardiola hails arrival of club record signing

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has hailed the arrival of Aymeric Laporte, saying the defender has “all the skills” he needs to succeed at The Etihad Stadium.

Laporte, 23, signed on a club record £57 million deal from Atheltico Madrid yesterday after weeks of speculation linking him with a move to Manchester.

And Pep Guardiola, who has been a long-term admirer of the young defender, has revealed how glad he is to land his man.

“He’s a left footed central defender who has played since a young age in La Liga on the biggest stages,” said the boss.

“He’s strong in the air, good quality with the pass. He is experienced, fast and he has the skills we need.

“He is the perfect age, 23-years-old, so hopefully he will have a long career here at Manchester City.”

Guardiola has also hinted that the France U23 international could be ready to make his debut as soon as this tonight, when City welcome West Brom to The Etihad.

“I don’t know, [if Laporte will be available]” Pep said, “I don’t think so, but in football anything can happen.

“It’s always tough for a new player but we will be patient.”
