Guardiola Instructs Club To Keep City Star Out Of The Clutches Of Arsenal And Juventus

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has told the club’s hierarchy to do”everything possible” to keep new captain Ilkay Gundogan at the Etihad, according to the Daily Star.

The German international has less than a year left on his contract but, so far, an agreement over an extension has not been reached.

Gundogan did not give anything away when he was asked about his future in a Twitter Q&A earlier this month but there is a suspicion that he may only sign on the dotted line if his game time increases.

Although he has been nominated as captain by his teammates, demonstrating his high standing in the dressing room, Guardiola has not always given the midfielder regular starting opportunities.

It led to speculation at the end of last season that Arsenal may make a move to snap up Gundogan, while the Daily Star claim that Juventus are also keeping tabs on the player’s situation.

After starting the first two league matches this campaign, though, there is a possibility that the 31-year-old could now be convinced into staying.
