Guardiola Makes Wenger And Ferguson Claim As He Clarifies Stance On City Future

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says he will leave the Etihad as soon he feels something is “broken” at the club.

The Spaniard has only recently signed a two-year contract extension, keeping him with the Premier League champions until 2025. If he reaches the end of his current deal, he would have spent nine years in Manchester but Guardiola believes he won’t stay in the job as long as Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger or Manchester United’s Sir Alex Ferguson:

“The moment I feel something is broken, I will resign or not extend. I continue to say I’m not going to stay like Fergie and Arsene. The contract is just paper. I extended because I have the feeling we can still play good. But in the end, it’s the results. If we are tired of each other, I will not finish this contract.”

City supporters will certainly be hoping that Guardiola remains happy at City and that he continues to feel excited by the project for many years to come.

Under the 51-year-old’s stewardship, the Citizens have had unprecedented levels of success, winning four league titles, four League Cups, two Community Shields and one FA Cup. Of course, the big trophy that still eludes him is the Champions League and the quest to lift the biggest prize in European football is likely to keep the fire in his belly.
