Guardiola Provides New Update As Doubts Over City Star’s Fitness For Arsenal Clash Increase

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has ruled out Nathan Ake from facing Sheffield United in the FA Cup but he declined to give further details on the Dutchman’s fitness.

The defender suffered a hamstring injury in the draw against Bayern Munich and, when asked for an update on the defender, Guardiola said they still need to do more tests to determine how long he will be out for:

“I don’t know [how long]. He’s [Ake] not ready for tomorrow but I don’t know the damage. I think this afternoon they do the final test to see exactly what he has.”

At this stage, it doesn’t look likely that Ake will be available for the potential title decider against Arsenal on Wednesday.

Even a minor hamstring strain can take a couple of weeks to recover from so, unless the club’s medical staff decide to take a risk on his fitness, he is not expected to face the Gunners.

It leaves Guardiola with a decision to make. Aymeric Laporte has started in a back three recently so the Spaniard would be the favourite to come in and replace Ake for the crunch game next week.
