Guardiola Set To Push For United Academy Reject As Sane’s Replacement

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is keen to bring in Burnley winger Dwight McNeil as Leroy Sane’s replacement, according to ESPN.

The 20-year-old, who was released by Manchester United before moving to the Clarets six years ago, has impressed since making his first-team debut in 2018, scoring five goals and providing 11 assists in 53 Premier League appearances.

Guardiola has reportedly been keeping an eye on McNeil, who he believes has the potential to develop into a top player due to his adaptability and physical athleticism.

The Citizens boss had been pretty dismissive of the need to replace Sane, with the Spaniard having cited other priorities in the transfer market.

However, it is believed that City do have a list of potential replacements, with McNeil’s name being high up on the agenda. Whether he is the number one target, though, it remains to be seen.

The likes of Bayer Leverkusen’s Leon Bailey, Valencia’s Ferran Torres and Real Sociedad’s Mikel Oyarzabal have been mentioned as other potential options in recent months.
