Gundogan staying put despite interest from La Liga giants

Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan insists he is staying at the The Etihad Stadium despite rumours linking him with Barcelona.

Barca reportedly want Gundogan as a replacement for the departed Andres Iniesta, who left the club for Japanese side Vissel Kobe at the end of last term.

Gundogan, who has two years remaining on his contract with City however, says he is going nowhere.

In response to the speculation, he told Arab News: “I have plenty of time on my current contract, two years to go.

“But it also depends on the club if they want me to stay. Everyone can see and feel I am really happy here.

“With the way we play, with the people around me, in the city, in the community, I really enjoy it here and really enjoy my life. I’m happy.

“It was great to win the Premier League title, but there are plenty of things still to achieve.

“We are committed to this every year at City, not just the players, but the coaching staff, to try to win the biggest trophies.

“That’s what we will be trying to do next season and the season after.”

Gundogan joined City in 2016 in a £20 million move from Borussia Dortmund, and has since made 64 appearances, scoring 11 goals for Pep Guardiola’s side.
