Hamann Cites Guardiola As Reason Why Haaland Could End Up At United Rather Than City

Former Manchester City midfielder Didi Hamann has questioned whether manager Pep Guardiola would be interested in recruiting Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland.

The Citizens are thought to be looking for a potential successor to Sergio Aguero, with Haaland seemingly fitting the bill considering his father’s close relationship with the club, but Hamann doesn’t think the Norwegian will fit Guardiola’s style of play

The likes of Manchester United and Chelsea are also said to be keen on the 20-year-old, and Hamann says he believes the player may end up moving to Old Trafford instead:

“I don’t think Haaland is a Manchester City player. I can’t see him joining Man City and I’m not sure whether City will be interested in him Pep [Guardiola] has got rid of some centre-forwards in the past. The way they play, they like to pass the ball around, I’m not sure whether Haaland would suit Man City or fit in there. At Manchester United, they have so many quick players and like to counter-attack, I think Haaland will suit United a lot better than City.”

It is true that Guardiola has fallen out with strikers before, most notably Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Barcelona, and it took a while for him to warm to Aguero. Whether that will affect the club’s interest in Haaland, though, we shall see.

Goals are a key component of any team’s game and it would be hard to pass up the chance of signing someone like Haaland, who has scored 45 goals in 46 games for Dortmund since he arrived at the Bundesliga club fourteen months ago.
