Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez scored the winning goal as Algeria progressed to the final of the African Cup of Nations.

In a dramatic late twist, the 28-year-old scored with a perfectly struck freekick deep into injury time, to secure a 2-1 win against Nigeria.

City supporters are hoping Mahrez brings his international form back with him to the Etihad next season:

Mahrez was City’s record signing last summer after arriving from Leicester City for £60m. However, his first campaign did not live up to expectations for many.

Despite some inconsistent performances, the winger still finished the season with 12 goals and 12 assists in 44 appearances.

Mahrez also scored a crucial goal in the final league game against Brighton to help clinch the Premier League title.

The Algerian international will be hoping to add to his four domestic trophies last season by winning the AFCON with his country. They face Senegal in the final on Friday night.
