“I Still Think They Will…” Gary Neville Makes Confident Title Prediction After City’s Defeat To Liverpool

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville believes Manchester City are still likely to run away with the Premier League title despite the 1-0 defeat to Liverpool at the weekend.

Pep Guardiola’s side are currently four points behind leaders Arsenal, but Neville is confident that the Citizens will finish the season as champions:

“I still think they will [run away with it], I still think they will and today won’t change it, this was a freak game playing at Anfield. For City, it’s the most difficult game they have. I do think City will run away with it. Arsenal will come back towards Tottenham, Chelsea, United, Newcastle. I do think City will go away. This season is a very different season as well. Post-World Cup it could be completely different than it is now.”

As Neville points out, the result at Anfield will likely prove to be an anomaly. City’s performances on Merseyside over the years haven’t been great and they won’t face that sort of test every week.

Whether Arsenal will fall away, allowing the reigning Premier League champions to canter away to another title, though, that is more debatable.

Although the Gunners weren’t at their best against Leeds, they still managed to get the three points, so Neville probably shouldn’t be as dismissive about their staying power. Guardiola’s men are deservedly the favourites to retain their crown, however, and you’d expect them to get back to winning ways when they face Brighton on Saturday.
