Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool have all made enquiries for Sporting Lisbon left-back Nuno Mendes, according to journalist Jonathan Shrager:

The Portuguese international has been linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium in recent days, but the major obstacle in any deal will be the player’s asking price.

Mendes’s current release clause is €70m (£60m), and with so much interest currently being shown in the fullback, it is highly unlikely that Sporting would be prepared to sell for anything below that figure.

The 18-year-old has only played 34 games of senior football since making his debut at the back end of last season, but his performances have impressed many.

City are believed to be on the lookout for a new left-back and, with Mendes having been compared to Real Madrid legend Marcelo, with his marauding runs up and down the flank, he would appear to be a good fit for Pep Guardiola’s style of play.
