Ilkay Gundogan’s Transfer Stance Is Revealed As Arsenal Are Linked With Surprise Swoop For City’s Talisman

Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan will “prioritise” a move to Spain this summer, according to Sport.

The Catalan publication claims that Arsenal are “interested” in signing the German international, with the midfielder’s contract at the Etihad set to expire at the end of the season.

However, it is believed that Gundogan is keen on joining Barcelona, with the Catalan club having a good relationship with the player’s representatives.

Barca have not moved to tie down the 32-year-old to a pre-contract agreement for a couple of reasons. Negotiations with Sergio Busquets over a new deal have taken precedence, while the La Liga leaders are also focused on recruiting a right-back and a striker.

That does leave the door open for Arsenal if the Catalan side don’t table a formal proposal to Gundogan soon. The German is unlikely to put pen to paper on a contract extension with City. It is believed the Citizens are not willing to give in to the midfielder’s demands.
