“Insanity” – City fans react as Leroy Sane misses out of World Cup place

Manchester City fans have been left stunned by the news that Leroy Sane has missed out on a place at the World Cup.

Sane was not named in Joachim Low’s final 23-man squad for this summer’s tournament in Russia, being one of four to be dropped from the defending champion’s provisional squad.

Bayer Leverkusen pair Bernd Leno and Jonathan Tah, as well as Freiburg striker Nils Petersen were also dropped alongside Sane.

Manuel Neuer, who returned to action only last week after nine months out, was included, as was Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus, who too spent much of the season out injured.

Sane’s omission comes a huge shock for not Manchester City fans.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a fine season for City, scoring 14 goals and assisting 19 in all competitions as City romped to the Premier League title.

Sane was also named as the PFA’s Young Player of the Year.

Low said it was a “very close decision” between Sane and Julian Brandt, who scored 12 goals and made seven assists for fifth-placed Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen this year.

Is it a credit to the strength of Germany’s squad that they can leave the likes of Sane out? Or simply a blunder by Joachim Low? Manchester City fans seem to think it’s the latter …
