Journalist Makes Shock Claim About City’s Interest In Romelu Lukaku

Manchester City could well consider reviving their interest in Romelu Lukaku next summer, according to Eurosport’s Dean Jones.

The journalist says that if Lukaku does decide to leave Chelsea, a move to the Etihad cannot be ruled out as the Citizens are in the market for a new striker:

“The only other real place is Man City. And that is an interesting one because they’re going to look for a nine at the end of the season.”

Lukaku has confirmed that he did reject an offer from City in 2020, so they have pursued the Belgian international in the past, but you would have to think that his switch to Chelsea has ended their pursuit.

On top of the fact that the Blues would be reluctant to sell to a direct rival, City are thought to be looking at recruiting a much younger player to lead the line.

Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland (21) is reportedly their main target, with Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic (21) and Real Sociedad’s Alexander Isak (22) also on the club’s radar. With Lukaku turning 29 in May, it seems like too much water may have passed under the bridge.
