La Liga Giants Consider January Raid For City Star Whose Contract Is Set To Expire In The Summer

Barcelona are considering whether to make an offer for Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan when the transfer window reopens, according to reports in the Catalan media.

It is believed that Barca were keen on signing Bernardo Silva but, with the La Liga club having been knocked out of the Champions League, they accept that a move for the Portuguese international is not realistic in January.

They have considered Leicester’s Youri Tielemans as a potential alternative, but there is a feeling that Arsenal are favourites to secure the Belgian’s signature so a move for Gundogan has been prioritised.

The German international is out of contract at the end of the season and, providing an update about his future in a recent interview, he said he was “relaxed” about his situation, suggesting he may not be close to signing an extension.

With City reluctant to lose Gundogan on a free transfer, they could be open to selling the midfielder in the New Year if Barcelona make a formal approach.
