Football fans around the world are in shock today after it was revealed that one of Manchester City’s star players has been left out of the Germany squad for the upcoming World Cup.
Leroy Sane played an integral part in City’s super season which saw them win the Premier League title with a record breaking 100 points, and the German forward was named the PFA Young Player of the Year for his efforts.
However, despite providing 10 goals and 15 assists in 28 games for Guardiola’s side during the 17/18 season, German boss Joachim Low has left the 22-year-old out of his final 23-man squad for the tournament in Russia.
The news comes as a surprise to pretty much everyone, as Sane is widely regarded as one of the best youngsters in world football and was a favourite to shine on the world stage when the tournament kicks off. But as the news broke on Monday morning, Twitter almost did too when the thousands of tweets flooded in about the subject.
Low said it was a close call between leaving out either Draxler, Brandt or Sane – did he compare the trio’s stats this season!?
League games this season:
Julian Brandt: 34 games 9 goals 3 assists this season
Julian Draxler: 30 games 4 goals 5 assists
Leroy Sané: 32 games 10 goals 15 assists

One football fan described the decision by Joachim Low as ‘criminal’:
Sane being left out of German’s World Cup squad is criminal. There is no justifiable reason for that.

Even Manchester United fans are shocked by the decision…
Leroy Sane has been one of the best wingers in the Premier League this season and has been left out of the German World Cup squad. Madness.

One fan admitted that perhaps Sane wouldn’t have been a starter for Germany during the World Cup, but argued it doesn’t make sense to leave out arguably one of the best players in the world!
Wasn’t expecting a key role for Leroy Sane with Germany this summer—it was already clear he hadn’t fully convinced Joachim Low—but to leave him out altogether? Wow.
