Manchester City can win the Champions League this season insists Leroy Sane

Leroy Sane believes Manchester City have a good chance of winning the Champions League this season.

City cruised into the quarter-finals of the competition with a 5-2 aggregate victory of Swiss Champions FC Basel.

They now take on Premier League rivals Liverpool in the last eight next month.

Pep Guardiola’s side have already secured their first trophy of the season as they beat Arsenal 3-0 at Wembley to claim the Carabao Cup, and are only two victories away from a Premier League title having won 26 of their 30 top flight games so far this season.

And Sane believes his side can go all the way and record an historic treble by winning the Champions League.

“This year, we’re a real strong team, and we understand Pep Guardiola’s philosophy, have improved a lot and know what he wants from us,” the German told the Daily Mail.

“The Champions League is a really tough tournament and every single game is really special and difficult. But we have a good chance to come to the final and win the Champions League. But it will be really difficult.”

Sane has enjoyed a fine individual season too.

The Belgian has scored 12 goals and earning 15 assists in 38 appearances across all competitions, and is the hot favourite for the PFA Young Player of the Season award.

However the 22-year-old says, despite being flattered, he is more concerned with the achievements of the team rather than his own.

Sane added: “I haven’t thought about it at all and right now I’m not looking to win something for myself.

“In other interviews I was asked about the Ballon d’Or. I think it’s way too early, especially a trophy like this, but it would be nice for me, especially if I can reach it.”
