Manchester City enter fresh talks with Leicester over transfer of Riyad Mahrez

Manchester City have re-opened talks with Leicester City over the potential transfer of Riyad Mahrez, according to reports.

The Telegraph report that City are launching another attempt to sign the Algeria international after having missed out on his signature both last summer and in January.

City backed out of a deal earlier this year for Mahrez after refusing to meet Leicester’s demands for the player.

Leicester were believed to have asked for in the region of around £90 million for the 27-year-old, and were unwilling to budge on their asking price despite Mahrez handing in a transfer request and refusing to train with Claude Puel’s side.

However City remain hopeful a deal can be struck this summer, with the Foxes more likely to lower their asking price with now having until August to find a replacement should he leave the King Power Stadium.

City president Khaldoon al-Mubarak confirmed reports that his side have re-entered the race for Mahrez, saying: “We’d made our decisions from January in terms of what this squad needs this summer, so  it will be business as usual.

“We know the targets that Pep has identified, what he needs, and we will support him in the same way we have  supported him since he joined us.”

Leicester would be willing to consider City’s Patrick Roberts as part of any deal for Mahrez. The youngster has spent the last 18-months on-loan at Celtic.
