Manchester City are interested in signing Atletico Madrid left-back Lucas Hernandez, according to Calciomercato.com.

The Citizens are not the only team pursuing the defender, however, with both Manchester United and Real Madrid also keen on the Frenchman.

Hernandez was ever-present in the France side that won the World Cup. That is, despite the fact he only had a handful of caps for the national team before the tournament after making his international debut in March.

The full-back is not an automatic first-choice at Atletico with manager Diego Simeone rotating him with veteran Filipe Luis on the left-hand side of defence.

Bernard Mendy is still the City’s only senior left-back, and during the Frenchman’s absence through injury last season the club used midfielder Fabian Delph and right-back Danilo as cover.

A move for Hernandez would, therefore, make sense. The Frenchman’s flexibility may have also piqued the interest of City boss Pep Guardiola. At times last season, he was utilised as a centre-back by Atletico.
