Manchester City are the latest Premier League club to take a keen interest in Bologna midfielder Mattias Svanberg, according to reports in the Italian media.

The Swedish international has been linked with both Tottenham and Arsenal in recent weeks, amid claims that the player is stalling on signing a new contract.

Agent Martin Dahlin is expected in Italy for talks over Svanberg’s future in the coming days. Bologna are hoping to extend his current deal until 2025 but, if no agreement can be reached, a decision will have to be made about the midfielder’s future.

The 22-year-old only has eighteen months to run on his contract and, if negotiations don’t prove successful, there have been suggestions that Bologna would be prepared to offload Svanberg for around €15m (£12.6m) next month.

It remains to be seen whether City will step up their pursuit if it becomes apparent that Svanberg won’t put pen to paper on an extension.
