Manchester City planning £60 million January raid for Wolves’ Ruben Neves

Manchester City are plotting a £60 million move for Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves in January, according to reports.

City failed to land a new defensive midfielder during the summer having missed out on top targets Jorginho and Fred to Chelsea and Manchester United respectively.

And The Sun now reports the league leaders will bid for Neves after the New Year as Pep Guardiola looks to bolster his midfield options with David Silva and Fernandinho approaching their 33rd and 34th birthdays.

Neves starred for Wolves last season as they won the Championship, impressing with his attacking prowess and spectacular long-range goals, and has made a good start to life in the Premier League.

The 21-year-old scored a stunning free-kick and set up another during Wolves 2-2 draw with Everton on the opening weekend, and again put in a solid display in this weekend’s 2-0 defeat to Leicester City.

The Portuguese international is under contract at Wolves until 2023, however has recently spoke of his admiration for Pep Guardiola, sparking rumours he could move to The Etihad in the future should City come calling.

Neves agent, Jorge Mendes, also represents City duo Ederson and Bernardo Silva – the latter of whom has played alongside the Wolves star at international level for Portugal.
