Manchester City star ruled out of World Cup after suffering ankle injury in training

Manchester City and Brazil full-back Danilo has been ruled out of the remainder of the World Cup after suffering an ankle injury in training.

Danilo picked up the knock yesterday evening, less than a day before his country take on Belgium in the quarter-finals.

The City star suffered ligament damage to his ankle, which has brought an abrupt end to his tournament. He will however remain with the squad upon request.

Danilo’s injury caps off what has been. frustrating time in Russia personally.

The former Porto and Real Madrid man started in Brazil’s opener against Switzerland, a 1-1 draw in Rostov, however then sustained a thigh injury in training shortly after which ruled him out of the subsequent games against Costa Rica, Serbia and Mexico.

He had since been replaced by Fagner in Brazil’s starting XI, and the Corinthians right-back is now guaranteed to keep his place in Tite’s starting line-up after Danilo’s second injury in the space of a few days.

Danilo had come into the squad as a replacement for Paris St-Germain’s Dani Alves, who has missed the tournament with a knee injury.
