Manchester City star says Pep Guardiola ‘restored his confidence’

Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho has praised manager Pep Guardiola for ‘restoring his confidence’ ahead of his summer’s World Cup.

The 33-year-old will travel to Russia this summer as part of Tite’s 23-man Brazil squad on the back of a vastly successful season with City.

The Brazilian started 33 times in the Premier League for City, scoring five goals and laying on three assists, as Pep Guardiola’s side walked to the title with a record 100 points.

With the Canarinho expected to push all the way for the trophy this summer, Fernandinho says his restored confidence courtesy of Guardiola will be a huge boost as he and his countryman aim for glory in Russia.

“You see football differently with him,” said Fernandinho, “He treasures things he believe can make a player better. In two seasons working with him I improved considerably.

“It’s a privilege to work with him. He’s one of the best and has improved all of us at City in terms of teamwork.”

Fernandinho’s team-mate, Danilo, who is also part of Brazil’s squad for this summer’s tournament, endorsed his coutryman’s claims, also saying he feels Guardiola has had a huge impact on improving his game during his time at The Etihad.

“We have four City players in our squad and the pressing game we play has been so important for me,” he said.

“The way he rotates tactically with the emphasis on ball possession has helped me so much.”
