Manchester City Take On Aston Villa In WSL

Manchester City take on Aston Villa in WSL action next as they face a stern task on Saturday, January 21 as they face Aston Villa. Can the Citizens pick up a vital three points and re-invigorate their title charge?

Currently, Chelsea are top of the WSL. City are six points behind them, but they also have a game in hand over the leaders.

City have been on a good run in the WSL as of late. They’ve won their last four of their last five games, defeating Liverpool along the way – the only game they failed to win was against Manchester United, which they drew 1-1.

Man City have only lost two games so far this season in the WSL. However, one of those two defeats came against none other than Aston Villa.

It was a WSL classic – Villa led 2-0 in the first half, before City went on the offensive and quickly turned the tables to make it 3-2. Villa weren’t going to just lie down, though – a strike from Kenza Dali and Rachel Daly’s second goal of the game meant that City would go home with nothing.

As such, the Sky Blues will be looking to avenge this crushing defeat. Villa are currently 7th in the WSL, but don’t let this relatively low position in the table deceive you.

Villa are one of the stronger teams in the WSL. The aforementioned Rachel Daly is among the division’s most talented players – nine goals in ten games makes her the joint top goalscorer in the league.

This being said, Manchester City will still be expected to win. Villa have won just one of their last three games – the other two were heavy defeats against Arsenal and Manchester United, respectively.
