Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said he was proud of how his team performed despite losing 3-1 to Liverpool last time out, and the stats back him up in the sense that the Citizens had more shots and possession than any other team that has played at Anfield this season.

It was a defeat, though, and the Premier League champions will be determined to get back to winning ways when they face Chelsea in a huge game at the Etihad on Saturday evening.

Frank Lampard’s side have recovered extremely well after losing 4-0 to Manchester United on the opening day. Their only other loss came against Liverpool and they are one point ahead of City heading into this weekend’s encounter.

Guardiola may have Ederson back in contention for the match, with the Brazilian having trained this week after missing the game at Anfield with a thigh injury.

Oleksandr Zinchenko (knee), Aymeric Laporte (knee) and Leroy Sane (knee) remain out of contention, while Bernardo Silva is suspended.

Chelsea have five players currently on the treatment table. Christian Pulisic (hip) and Ross Barkley (ankle) are both doubts while Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Achilles), Antonio Rudiger (groin) and Marco van Ginkel (knee) are all unavailable.

The bookmakers have made City the favourites with Sky Bet pricing them at 4/9 to get the win. A draw is 17/4 with Betway while a Chelsea victory is 13/2 at William Hill.
