Matt Law Claims Guardiola Is A ‘Big Admirer’ Of Chelsea Star With City Plotting Summer Bid

Manchester City are weighing up a move for Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic, according to the Daily Telegraph‘s Matt Law.

The reliable journalist claims that manager Pep Guardiola is a “big admirer” of the Croatian international, who could be available when the summer transfer window opens:

Guardiola approached Kovacic after the league game between City and Chelsea at Stamford Bridge back in January. The 28-year-old had clearly impressed the Spaniard with his performance and it appears that the player is now a genuine transfer target.

With Kovacic’s contract set to expire in 2024, Chelsea are believed to be open to selling, but it isn’t known whether they would be willing to let him join a Premier League rival.

Relations between the two clubs are said to be good after City allowed Raheem Sterling to make the switch to the Blues last summer so that could help if negotiations are held regarding Kovacic.
