Merson Makes Claim About How City’s Recent Slip Ups Could Impact The Title Race

Paul Merson believes Manchester City have a lot of catching up to do after falling five points behind Liverpool after just five games played.

The pundit thinks the Citizens can’t afford to fall any further behind at the top, despite it being so early in the season, as he believes the Reds could run away with the title:

“City need to make up ground quickly, otherwise Liverpool might start running away with the league and then they’d be hard to catch. Liverpool are that good you can’t afford to give them a big lead in the title race.”

“I think City are behind the eight-ball right now. For City to let in three goals and lose like they did to Norwich was a shocking result, and now they’ve lost John Stones as well as Aymeric Laporte. There’s still a long way to go because they haven’t played each other yet but City won’t want to have to beat Liverpool twice.”

If the Reds do keep up their form and continue their levels from last season then every draw or loss could be very damaging for City. So at this point in the season before the two teams face each other for the first time in the League it might well be smart to use your-bonus-code.com to get the best odds before City potentially beat Liverpool and have their title odds shortened as a result.

There are still 33 games to go and there are a lot of points to be won and lost, but Merson is pretty much basing his theory that both Liverpool and City will be looking to match last season’s points totals. Looking at how Liverpool have started and how City will only get stronger through the season as Aymeric Laporte and even more so John Stones get ready to return, both clubs may exceed their points totals from last season.

However, Jurgen Klopp’s men are far from invincible and after recovering from a blip in December last year to win the title after falling seven points adrift, City boss Pep Guardiola will be confident in his side’s ability to get back on track.
