Midfielder backs City to bounce back after Liverpool defeat

Manchester City’s Ilkay Gundogan has backed his side to bounce straight back after the weekend’s defeat to Liverpool.

The Citizens tasted loss for the first time this season courtesy of Jurgen Klopp’s men, with a late comeback not being able to prevent a 4-3 defeat at Anfield.

Gundogan, who was on the scoresheet in the dying moments to set up a nervy finish for the hosts, expects the club to get back to winning ways as soon as possible.

“We’re very disappointed but we have to accept it, keep our focus and look forward to our next game,” said Gundogan. “It continues and we won’t stop.

“The title race is still in our own hands and we’re still in a comfortable position, but we need to learn from today.

“We need to learn from those 10 minutes when we conceded three goals and look to keep on improving.”

The defeat was the first in all competitions for City this season, and bought to an end their record breaking run in which they had won 20 of their previous 22 Premier League games.

“Pep said it would be nearly impossible to go all season without losing. We’re disappointed but now we must look ahead.”

City host Newcastle on Saturday afternoon as they look to extend their 15 points lead at the top of the Premier League table.
