My work ethic better than the rest, insists City and England star

Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph has insisted he is the hardest working member of Pep Guardiola’s record-breaking side.

The 28-year-old surprisingly played a key role in City’s Premier League win last season, coming in at left-back to replace the injured Benjamin Mendy.

His efforts for City not only saw him become a pivotal figure for Guardiola, but it also earned him a call-up for Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the World Cup in Russia.

And with England kicking off their campaign against Tunisia on Monday, Delph revealed how his hard work all season to become a key player for the Sky Blues means he arguably has the best work ethic in the squad.

“There are obviously a lot more talented players than me in the Manchester City team,” he told reporters.

“But my work ethic is probably better than theirs, and I think Pep likes that.

“He’s been great with me, he’s worked with me closely, as have the rest of his staff and this season has been absolutely class for me.

“To top it off with a World Cup I am delighted.

“Coming into the England set-up the lads from City are very confident, as are the other lads in the squad. So I’m looking forward for the first game to start, it’s exciting times.

“We’ve worked on various different systems with various personnel.

“The team’s not guaranteed, there could be changes. But from the set-up that we’ve done, it’s pretty clear who’s going to be starting.”
