Manchester City could have an edge in brokering a deal for Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland after his father became more involved in transfer negotiations, according to The Mirror.

Alf Inge, who played for the Citizens between 2000 and 2003, is believed to be now handling talks over the striker’s future, along with his agent Mino Raiola.

With Raiola having had his run-ins with both City and Pep Guardiola in the past, the presence of Haaland’s father could help ensure that a transfer goes ahead.

The Mirror claim that Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool are the Premier League champions’ main rivals for Haaland’s signature, with no mention of Barcelona, Manchester United or Chelsea.

City’s strong connection to Haaland’s family is seemingly tipping things in their favour but a lot could happen between now and the summer. The 21-year-old’s €75m (£62.5m) release clause means he is a realistic target for a number of different teams.
