Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and Crystal Palace head coach Patrick Vieira are being considered by Manchester City as long-term replacements for Pep Guardiola, according to The Athletic‘s Amy Lawrence.
The pair have both worked for the City Football Group in the past. Arteta was Guardiola’s assistant, while Vieira has taken charge of New York City FC, and Lawrence claims they will be “strong candidates” when City target their next manager:
With Mikel Arteta's contract up at the end of next season, Arsenal are in 'Judge me in May' territory. How they fare between now and then will force the big decision for club and manager in terms of an extension. Piece for @TheAthleticUK #AFC https://t.co/g1NjQ7Rnz8

Supporters on Twitter are, unsurprisingly, sceptical about Arteta and Vieira’s credentials, with many feeling that there are better managers out there:
No way people believe this

The fact that Arteta and Vieira have previous experience of working within City’s system means they will be under consideration, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they will be at the top of the club’s list of potential replacements for Guardiola.
In any case, while Guardiola’s contract does expire at the end of the next season, there is still a possibility that the Spaniard will again opt to extend his stay at the Etihad. Any speculation about a successor could, therefore, be rather premature.
