“On Another Level…” Enrique Dismisses Comparisons Between De Bruyne And Arsenal Playmaker

Ex-Newcastle and Liverpool defender Jose Enrique claims Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne should not be compared with any other player in the Premier League.

Similarities have been drawn between the Belgian international and Arsenal‘s Martin Odegaard, but Enrique believes the City star is in a class of his own:

“Stop comparing him [Kevin De Bruyne] to [Martin] Odegaard or anyone. He is on another level to everyone else in the Premier league. Odegaard is a world-class player but still [has] a lot to prove. This guy has been world-class for many years.”

You don’t have to look that deep into the statistics to see the differences between De Bruyne and Odegaard in terms of the impact they can have on a game.

Since moving to the Etihad in 2015, De Bruyne has averaged a goal or assist every 1.47 games. In contrast, Odegaard is currently averaging a goal involvement every 2.93 matches, despite having made 249 fewer appearances for his current club.

If we also take into consideration the four Premier League titles and eight other domestic cups that De Bruyne has won during his seven and a half years with City, you can see why Enrique was so forthright with his remarks.
