Paul Merson believes Manchester City should look to re-sign Jadon Sancho in the summer if Leroy Sane does depart for Bayern Munich.
The teenager left for Borussia Dortmund two years ago and has since been linked with a move to Manchester United. Commenting on the England international’s future, Merson says City, Arsenal and United should all be pursuing the player:
“Manchester United seem to like him, and Arsenal certainly should. But Manchester City might even be tempted to bring him back. If Leroy Sane ends up leaving they will need someone young, quick and talented to replace him and Sancho looks the perfect fit.”
Much may depend on whether Sane signs a new contract at the Etihad Stadium. The German’s current deal expires in 2021 and he will have just twelve months left to run at the end of the season.
City boss Pep Guardiola has previously said that the winger’s future is out of the club’s hands, and it will be up to the player to sign on the dotted line.
If that doesn’t happen, though, the Citizens may look to cash in, and Sancho would be a replacement that possesses the right qualities to play under Guardiola.
