REPORT: City Plan £30M Bid For Chelsea Star As They Target Kalvin Phillips’ Replacement

Manchester City are lining up a £30m offer for Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic, according to N1 Zagreb.

The TV station claims that manager Pep Guardiola is a big admirer of the Croatian international and he is keen to sign the player to replace Kalvin Phillips.

Since moving to the Etihad last year from Leeds, Phillips has struggled for form and fitness and it is believed he will be allowed to leave after just one season with the Premier League champions.

N1 go as far as to say that the England midfielder is “close to signing” for Aston Villa. Whether there is any truth in that, we shall have to wait and see.

In terms of Kovacic, it is claimed that the player’s representatives have already met face-to-face with City officials in London. The 28-year-old is closing on the final year of his contract at Chelsea and the Blues will have to sell him this summer if they want to receive a transfer fee.
