REPORT: City Set To Beat United For £65m Defender With Deal Expected To Be Finalised Within A Week

Manchester City are closing in on signing Leicester centre-back Harry Maguire, according to the Daily Star.

The Citizens have apparently agreed a deal worth £65m for the England international, with the Premier League champions having edged out rivals Manchester United for the player’s signature.

Maguire could become a City player within the next week, with a medical already being planned.

The £65m figure being reported does seem to be very low, so it’s probably best to take this report with a pinch of salt.

Leicester were reportedly demanding £75m for the 26-year-old last year, with a £90m price tag having been set by the Foxes this summer.

Normally, as City have experienced in the past, the Midlands club’s owners normally drive a hard bargain, and would probably be seeking to get the best deal possible if they do sell up

City have been heavily linked with Maguire over the past month or so, with manager Pep Guardiola said to have prioritised the centre-half as captain Vincent Kompany’s replacement.
