REPORT: Manchester City Join Race To Sign 19-Year-Old Premier League Star

Manchester City could make a bid for one of their former midfielders, Romeo Lavia, according to TalkSPORT reporter Alex Crook [via GIVEMESPORT].

While Crook mentions that Manchester City have a buy-back clause in Lavia’s Southampton contract, the Sky Blues are far from the only club who are interested in snapping him up in the summer.

On Manchester City’s chances of signing Lavia, Crook said: “I’m told he was really keen to move on in January. It’s been suggested that maybe he might wait and see what Man City do because they’ve got that buy-back option. I’m not sure about that. I think if he can get a Premier League club and a big one this summer, then he’ll push for it.”

Who else has been linked with Manchester City transfer target Romeo Lavia?

According to Football Insider, Liverpool are also believed to be interested in Lavia, as Jurgen Klopp’s Reds look to bolster their midfield options after a turgid season.

City’s bitterest rivals, Manchester United, are also thought to be interested in a move for Lavia, according to a report in the Manchester Evening News.

Additionally, both Chelsea and Arsenal are thought to be interested in a move for the Saints starlet [via The Metro]. Following Southampton’s relegation to the Championship, he is keen to move away from the club – but where will he ultimately end up?

Romeo Lavia career summary

Aged just 19, Lavia’s career is still very much in its infancy. He began his journey at S.C. Woluwe at the age of eight, before joining Anderlecht in 2012.

In 2020, he left Belgium to join Manchester City’s academy at the age of 16. He made his first team debut in the EFL Cup before moving to Southampton in 2022.

While he impressed onlookers on an individual level, the Saints endured a turgid season as they finished bottom of the Premier League table.
