REPORT: Manchester City Join Race To Sign Champions League-Winning Midfielder

Manchester City are interested in signing versatile defensive player Joshua Kimmich from Bayern Munich, according to a report by Mundo Deportivo.

Despite this, Manchester City are not the only ones in the race to bring Kimmich on board. Barcelona have also registered an interest in the German utility player – and as things stand, they appear to be the frontrunners.

On top of this, Kimmich’s contract at Bayern does not expire until June 2025. As such, the Sky Blues will need to pay the German giants a substantial fee to acquire his services.

Where would Joshua Kimmich fit into Manchester City’s team?

In recent years, Kimmich has been enjoying life in defensive or central midfield. However, City have no shortage of players in this position, with midfielders such as Rodri, Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne.

Thankfully, this is not the only position that Kimmich is natural in. He can also play at right-back – in fact, that is where he began his career.

With the loan departure of Joao Cancelo in the January transfer window, which could develop into a permanent move, the Citizens are in need of a quality right-back. Kimmich certainly fits that billing – can Pep Guardiola land his man?
