REPORT: Premier League Teams Expected To DEFY FIFA and Field Ineligible Players This Weekend

Premier League clubs are expected to defy FIFA and field their ineligible players in this weekend’s fixtures, according to the Sun‘s Martin Lipton.

FIFA are able to ban clubs from using players for five days after an international break, when teams block their stars from joining up with their national teams.

The Premier League felt that the unique conditions caused by the global health crisis should mean that such a ban should not be enforced, but the Sun report that talks between English teams and FIFA over a compromise have broken down.

With no solution likely, all 20 top-flight teams have now decided the players can be selected and that no complaints will be made to FIFA about fielding their ineligible stars.

It is unlikely to resolve the club v country row, though, with FIFA expected to bring in the English FA to help them enforce their rules. We shall see how this story develops.
