Riise Names The Two Premier League Clubs Who Are Favourites To Sign Erling Haaland

Manchester City and Chelsea are the two likeliest destinations for Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland in the Premier League, according to John Arne Riise.

The ex-Liverpool fullback admits the Reds are unlikely to have the funds to sign the Norwegian, and he believes his fellow countryman could well end up going to one of his former club’s rivals:

“In the Premier League, I can only see maybe Manchester City and Chelsea being able to afford him. But then again, is salary that important to him? He’s going to earn a lot anyway. The only chance I can see him at Liverpool is if the salary (demand) goes down. When it comes to his agent and the numbers I’m reading now, I can only see City or Chelsea in the Premier League.”

With Chelsea having signed Romelu Lukaku last summer, it would be a big surprise if they also went after Haaland next year, even if the 21-year-old is available for a reasonable price due to his release clause.

If we take that into consideration, City would therefore be the favourites for the forward, in England at least. Manchester United have been touted as a potential destination but it seems unlikely he would join a club in crisis.

It appears as though City are very much in the fight to secure Haaland’s signature, along with the likes of Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
