Scholes Names One City Player Who Should Be Named PFA Player Of The Year “Before” Bruno Fernandes

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes thinks Manchester City centre-back Ruben Dias is more deserving of the PFA Player of the Year award than Bruno Fernandes.

In fact, Scholes believes there are several City players who should be considered ahead of Fernandes for the prize at the end of the season:

“Look what City have done with [Ruben] Dias… all the teams that have won the league in recent years: [Vincent] Kompany, [Virgil] Van Dijk. He should be right in the mix (for PFA Player of the Year), there is no doubt about that, but I am always a believer the best players are the players playing for the team that wins the league and there are a few City players I’d go for before Bruno.”

Dias’s impact since arriving at the Etihad Stadium has been spectacular. The Citizens have only conceded 17 goals in 27 games this campaign, letting in a goal, on average, every 1.58 matches. It has been the key foundation for their title charge that now sees them 15 points clear at the top of the table.

Last year, City conceded 35 in 38 league games, letting in a goal, on average, every 1.08 matches. Dias has certainly been the main reason why they have managed to improve defensively to the extent they have. Defenders don’t always get the big individual prizes but, after Virgil van Dijk was handed the award two years ago, there is nothing to say Dias won’t get it this year.
